I’m sure it is like us all to search and seek an answer to the question, what is God’s wonderful will for my life? So often we search on the outside in this world rather than in God’s Word.
I chuckle at the memory of how many times I felt so perplexed and anxious about not knowing Gods will for my life – the greatest revelation I received is, it’s not focused on me!
In His word, He says very plainly what His will is. Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God, (See Romans 10:17) and we need faith to please God. It is the connection point of obedience and understanding of His ways. Along with reading the scriptures we need our tour guide, counselor and friend, Holy Spirit. (See John 16:13)
Come aboard this exciting tour through God’s word to discover a treasure in his Kingdom called Thankfulness!
ALL ABOARD THE THANKFULNESS TOUR!
It is God’s beautiful and wonderful plan for us to have a spirit of thankfulness, and to be a people who are thankful.
Lets play a scenario in our minds for a moment. Imagine you have given someone you love a gift everyday faithfully, but in return, that person looks only at what they don’t have and doesn’t even bother to say thank you. How would that make you feel?
Take a moment to put yourself in the shoes of our loving Father who gives without reservation. Look to the cross – he poured Himself out for us to demonstrate that in His heart there’s nothing He wants to hold back from us.
“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all – how will He not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” Romans 8:32
That is a beautiful promise!!
I remember once fretting about my future, and very simply God reminded me
“It helps to know who’s hands your in…”
He is saying, “Hey! You’re not alone in this, don’t you know who I Am?”
He is a generous loving father.
David, a man known to be a man after God’s heart, said this about thankfulness-
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name! 🙂 For the Lord is good and his love endures for ever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4
We enter the Secret Chambers of the Lord through thanksgiving! He gave us so much in His Son Jesus, that we first thank Him and then can draw near to Him and be in his House!
Here is a key for each one of you to enter in the courts of the Lord. Its not by works here- just receive it as a gift.
Are you enjoying this tour, feeling encouraged and blessed?
We only just embarked on this journey! There is still so much more!
Come with me as I will bring you to two more scriptures that amaze me about how thankfulness is so valued in God’s Kingdom.
“So then as you received Jesus Christ as LORD, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and over flowing with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7
We are called to not just be thankful but over flow in thankfulness, it’s meant to spill out around us into our environment. When someone displays an attitude of gratitude there’s joy and creativity, humility and love. It’s as if a thankful heart says, “Here is a cup- I’m going to fill it for you, but I won’t just stop at the top, I will keep pouring!” Gratitude its not meant to be contained!
As we continue to tour through these scriptures, you can see a depth and value in the power of thankfulness. It actually displays His GLORY !
“I will praise God in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.” Psalm 69:30
Isn’t that just amazing we can always give thanks because there will always be something to be thankful for. When Jesus broke bread (that was later multiplied), He first took the bread, raised it to heaven and gave His Father thanks. He glorified His Father God in the simple and beautiful act of thanksgiving.
Now we are coming to our transformational exit!
Here is my encouragement for you as we leave this journey today:
“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 4:1
I hope you enjoyed this journey! Thank you for coming along for the ride. My prayer for you is that you will never be the same because you have something so wonderful in yourself to give-because of God’s generosity for you first, and because you can always give thanks and carry with you wherever you go a spirit of gratitude.
