-Me TIME/KNOCKOUT PUNCH-
Don’t even. Just don’t. This is my me time.
I’m in the bath, snacking on something, usually chocolate ice cream of some sort, watching Fixer Upper on my IPad. I’m trying not to think of my list of things to do. This is my me time.
I know, I know- your thinking, “well good for you…” But trust me- you need some you time, too. Ever wonder why God created everything in six days and then rested on the seventh? Surely, He didn’t HAVE to rest…if God can make all the things we see in six days, then certainly He could restore Himself with a word, if He ever needed restoring, rather than take a day to rest. Here’s why-
Resting is important. God was setting an example for us.
Check out what Jesus does when things are getting hectic- “…the news spread about Him all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear Him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.”
Jesus knew the value of alone time. Time to get away, pray, rest, relax – time to recoup.
I once heard a story about a woman who had many children. She would sit in her rocking chair and cover her face and head with her apron. When her children saw her like this, they knew she was having alone time with God. They learned that disturbing her during this time was fruitless. She would not respond. Until her God time was over, they waited, they played outside…
Jesus also spent time alone with friends- the twelve disciples and the others who were close to Him, His mother Mary, His friend (whom He had greatly delivered) Mary Magdalene, and the other women and disciples who wanted to be close to Him. Sometimes you just need your buddies around to be refilled with God or joy and peace.
God knows that you need time to chill out. Maybe it’s a bath, or a movie, or prayer time, or Bible time, or even a dinner date with your spouse. He even made a big deal about resting! “Remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy.”
Don’t let the enemy make you feel bad about resting. He loves to say things like, “if you let this ball drop, all of them will!” or, “if you stop doing that thing, someone else might succeed at it before you do…” or “you don’t deserve to stop. You have a status to up hold,” or “if you take a break, you’re a failure.”
RUDE. The very example that God Himself gives us is the opposite. REST! I think the enemy might be afraid that if you take some time to catch your breath, you may just be able to deliver a knockout punch…
Wouldn’t that be something.
