~A Rebuttal of Terror~ By Rheannon

I heard a man on KLove yesterday talking about Psalm 46:10, where God Himself says, “Be still, and know that I am God…”  I had always thought of that verse as a comforting statement about the situations we may find ourselves in as believers in this life – and it is.  But what I hadn’t realized is that what God is declaring about Himself is really more like a commandment.  The comma says it all!  “Be still, …” That is such a powerful thing.  God is telling us to actually hold still and trust Him as the Great and Mighty Conqueror that He is.  He really is our ever present help in our times of need.  I’m just struck by the power that statement packs.  This is no sweet and sensitive imagery of God here, but the voice of a Mighty Warrior.  The Commander of Heavens Armies…the Great King of Kings – is terrifying in His authority.

I am so pained by the attacks at the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester last night.  I do not and will not ever understand why someone would kill innocent people using terror attacks, which usually also takes the life of the attacker.  All are tremendous losses of life.  It is utterly repulsive in the depths of my soul.  I would ask you to pray for the families of the 22 people who were killed, and to lift up those 59 people hospitalized after the attack.  Pray for Ariana, as she must be devastated knowing that those people came to see her perform and were harmed or killed.  It’s a heavy thing indeed.  I would also ask you to read the Psalm through the lens of last night’s brutality.  I don’t think God takes things like this lightly.  At all.

I am comforted knowing that God is a true fighter.  He will never leave us or forsake us.  Perhaps we may not see justice at this present time for the terrible things that happen in this life, but rest assured, there will certainly be justice served when Christ returns.

Pray. Trust. Share the love of God with others.

God bless you,

Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength,

an ever-present help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way

and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,

though its waters roar and foam

and the mountains quake with their surging.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

the holy place where the Most High dwells.

God is within her, she will not fall;

God will help her at break of day.

Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;

He lifts his voice, the earth melts.

The Lord Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Come and see what the Lord has done,

the desolations He has brought on the earth.

He makes wars cease

to the ends of the earth.

He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;

He burns the shields with fire.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Lord Almighty is with us;

the God of Jacob is our fortress.
